What is the Self Help Center?

The Access to Justice Self Help Center is designed to provide legal assistance to Indian River County citizens who are representing themselves before the court and do not have a private attorney. It is the first of its kind in our community.

Where is the Self Help Center?

The Self Help Center is located in room 157 of the Indian River County Courthouse:

When is the Self Help Center open?

Please call ahead at (772) 226-3162 to ensure staff will be able to assist you.

What services are offered?

  • Schedule a cost-effective attorney consultation

  • Learn about court process and procedure

  • Connect to community resources 

  • Purchase and fill out the forms you need

  • Prepare and submit your forms for filing

What cases do we offer assistance with?

The Center will focus on assisting customers with:

  • Family Law

  • Small Claims

  • Residential Landlord-Tenant

What if I don’t have internet access at home?

If you do not have access to a computer or smart device at home, customers have the option of seeking assistance from the Self Help Center supervisor or scheduling attorney appointments on their own at a customer computer available at the Self Help Center.

How can I schedule an attorney consultation?

Attorney consultations are available at cost of $1.00 per minute in 15 minute increment up to one hour. Consultations must be scheduled ahead of time.

You will need a credit card in order to schedule the consultation online.

Appointments scheduled with a Self Help Center Attorney do not establish an attorney-client relationship

What if I have a disability?

If you have a disability and are unable to make the appointment online, you may call the ADA line at (772) 807-4370 and leave a message. The message will be forwarded to our Self Help Center and someone will give you a call back.

Do I need to have a specific income to qualify for the services?

No, you do not need to have a specific income. Services provided at the Self Help Center are not based on your income.
